Suspect Sought in Colo. Officer's Shooting

A police officer was shot Wednesday and a massive search was under way for a suspect, officials said. There was no immediate word on the officer's condition.

The officer, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital. Two shots were fired, but it was not clear whether either came from the officer's gun.

Police spokesman Ron Webb told The Gazette that officers were searching for Jereme Lamberth, also known as Jereme Schwienhardt. Four schools were locked down.

Police did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

It was the first time a Colorado Springs officer had been shot since October 2004.
