U.S. Olympians Last to Know About Cheney Shooting

Gun-toting Olympic athletes in the Italian Alps are apparently the last Americans to learn of Vice President Cheney's shooting of a hunting companion.

"I hadn't heard that," biathlete Tim Burke said when asked what he thought of the incident.

Biathlon is a sport that combines cross-country skiing and target shooting.

Burke, an avid bird hunter says, "Maybe Mr. Cheney should take a lesson in hunter safety."

Maybe he's got a lot on his mind, offered teammate Lowell Bailey. But he adds, "That's not really any excuse for shooting another person."

The team has been in Italy since November, and coaches say they've gone to extraordinary lengths to keep them from distractions.
