Check out the pictures we have posted today. Some are the pictures from Chuck and Gena Norris' interview with us in the D.C. bureau. While our show is almost always all live, we taped the interview with them to show you Friday night. I hope you like the interview, Chuck and Gena are very, very, very nice people.
The other set of pictures was taken by my FOX News colleague, Shayla Bezdrob. She was in Massachusetts on Thursday covering Neil Entwistle's arraignment for double murder. The pics give you a "behind the scenes" look at covering this story.
So how did we — FOX News — get the news first that Joran van der Sloot was served with a lawsuit on the runway at JFK and his father was served at a New York City hotel? Well, I can't give you all the details — since I don't want to burn sources — but I can give you a bit of the background.
First, I got an e-mail early Thursday morning from a viewer asking me if I knew that Joran van der Sloot's parents were in New York. I did not. I had no idea. But, taking the tip from the e-mailer, I began investigating and I immediately called my senior producer. That viewer e-mail is what set everything off. So, to that e-mailer, thank you. I appreciate the help.
Immediately we hit the phones... and hit the phones... and hit the phones... and hit the phones... and hit the phones! We did not stop. We called virtually everyone who has ever been a part of our Aruba coverage. Many, many, many would not talk to us or simply did not know anything. Many did not return our calls. Some who had been helpful in the past, were not helpful now because they knew nothing or just did not want to give us information. But, we are a persistent bunch. We did not give up (yes, I even made phone calls while in the dentist's chair!) We did get some information as the day advanced and we pieced together different pieces of data and eventually ended with the news.
The first news we were able to gather was that the family was in USA to do an interview with someone... but who? Which network? Next we learned it ABC. But we did not know which show on ABC — "GMA," "20/20"? Which anchor? Diane Sawyer? That seemed likely... but just a guess. We kept digging and digging and digging.
Imagine our surprise when we learned that the real story was not that everyone was getting out-scooped by ABC for these interviews, but that the family was walking into a lawsuit by stepping on U.S. soil. I am sure that ABC was as stunned as we were about the lawsuit. After the news broke of the lawsuit being filed and served, I wondered what, if any, impact the service of the lawsuit would have on the ABC interview, which we were told would be conducted Friday from about 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Why so much time planned for an interview? We are guessing that it is a long show that ABC is putting together (an hour?) and that it is a highly produced interview for one of ABC's prime-time shows. Let me emphasize: This is a bit of a guess in that we have been tipped off to this, but have not verified it.
Perhaps the most intriguing part of the day was that we learned much of the story about the lawsuit and likelihood of serving it, a few hours before Joran's flight landed in the USA. We just were not sure what we had learned was accurate. It seemed a bit too James Bond-ish to be real. We heard, but were not certain, that he would be served with a lawsuit when he landed at JFK from Holland, but could this happen this way? We spent hours trying to get more information. We were not sure that even though we were told that it was planned, that it would succeed.
As an aside, one source who I called early in the morning sounded odd when he/she answered the phone. There was a weird echo in the background. Although the noise was obvious and unknown, it did not stop me. I immediately launched into my pitch for information (I had lots of coffee in me by this point and was speaking a million miles an hour), when the person finally interrupted me and said, "Could you call back? I am in the shower."
I have posted (see below) e-mails about the service of the lawsuit on Joran and his father. I grabbed the first bunch I got. People have very strong feelings about this... both pro and con. No one seems to be indifferent to this matter.
By the time you read this blog, I will be on a plane. Our flight left before 7 a.m. (which meant I was up at 4:30 a.m. — and I got home about midnight.) As you know, I have an easy job, but sometimes the nights are short. Last night was one of them. Our show will originate from Indiana tonight. I hope you watch.
Now for some e-mails from you:

I have a 26-year-old daughter. I understand absolutely what Beth Twitty is doing — she is making the family that conspired together to cover up Natalee's demise realize they will never be free from the Holloway-Twitty combined families until the truth is acknowledged, and the boys, including all involved are held accountable. It is her legacy to her daughter, as long as any of them draw breath, the truth will be pursued. She is to be admired and supported.

Thank God for John Q. Kelley. He must be like the Wizard of Oz for the Holloway and Twitty families. He has pounded the pavement and followed the friendly skies to the "yellow brick road" on the airport landing strip! Thousands of Americans have been communicating daily about this case for months, and finally something will happen for the family of Natalee — America's sweetheart. The Wizard of Oz is Natalee's favorite movie, and she has a huge collection of memorabilia from it.
We are all following along the yellow brick road with you, Mr. Kelly. And Greta, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for continuing to follow the story of Natalee and her family.

I think the foul play was at night, did [Jennifer Kesse] go back to her car, she forgot something? Did someone knock on her door and tell her, her headlights were on and she went out with her keys and then was taken?
I'm one for small details, in the pictures, the water bottle may suggest she went to the gym at night? Are her gym clothes or sneakers around and the water bottle on top of the TV? The newspaper on her desk was folded back: What date was on that, the night before, the morning, what was facing up that she was looking at? Last week?
The clothes were folded way to neatly, that was done with leisure, why not put those away when getting out new clothes for the morning? Those new clothes would have been off the bed if she planned on sleeping in the bed one of the signs you took, in the background was a mall. Did anyone check the back hallways and basement of the mall? The construction companies that are working on the condo's, what other jobs in town are they doing. There was not "morning" activity present from the pictures... the cereal boxes are neatly on top of the fridge, there is no coffee pot in the coffee maker, probably still in the dishwasher from before her trip cause she didn't have coffee at her condo Monday cause she drove right to work.
It happened at night, for some reason, she was in and lured out.

I love when Geoff is on your show! He is so funny, sarcastic, conceited, intelligent and he is a hoot! I just love him! Have him on more often!
E-mail No. 5
First just wanted to say that we miss hearing from Geoff Fieger on you show. Now my feelings about the "shooting," what bothers me is that had this accident happened to a "normal every day citizen," we would have been grilled by the police immediately! I would say that certainly shows a huge double standard. We all would have been tested for alcohol intake. A little bit of favoritism I would say. Love your show, but still want Geoff back on.

Greta, I congratulate John Q. Kelly, the Holloway/Twittys and you for your persistence in Natalee's case. May justice for Natalee and her family prevail.

We at Blogs for Natalee are ecstatic about the GOOD news of the Van der Sloots lawsuits. We are all jumping for joy over there! I want to thank you also, for listing Blogs for Natalee on your Web site. We very much appreciate it.

Well, I see Beth Twitty has found a way to get her face in front of the cameras again. I guess she got tired of the media coverage being off her and going onto other things... namely Neil Entwistle and the deaths of Rachel and Lilly.
Her slut daughter doesn't deserve the coverage that she has received, and Beth Twitty certainly has some nerve suing the Van der Sloots. It should be the other way around. Joran and his father should sue Beth for slander for all the statements Beth has said publicly about them.
I don't know where she plans on filing this lawsuit, but I hope a judge laughs her lying ass out of court.
ANSWER: Jody, differences of opinion are fascinating and healthy to a democracy, but boring when simply hostile. What's up? Bad day? Something is going on with you that just doesn't seem right...

I imagine that one of tonight's topics will be the Entwistle court appearance. I already shrug at the thought that your well-respected panel will use the Entwistle case to engage in their witty sparring. I accept cordial relations between the members of the panel, but must admit that I'm often offended by their ill-timed jesting while covering extremely grave, respectively tragic matters.
Just a thought,
White Plains, NY
ANSWER: I admit that sometimes we go over the line... for the most part, we are very respectful to the topics we cover. These ARE serious topics which enormous consequences to people. Thanks for the reminder.

You have to corral those guys! The sneakily aggressive ones talk too much while Bernie politely waits his turn and you never get to him! You should give more time for the panel to talk or else give them the exact amount of time equally. You can do it!
ANSWER: Sure beats my high school grades.

I couldn't stand watching you grin from ear to ear tonight. Don't even try to pretend that you didn't know this was going to happen to the Van der Sloot family. I have no doubt that you and Beth were in contact planning this whole thing weeks ago.
That bitch is just scared of what Joran is going to say about her slut daughter and how Jug "coached" her. Beth is a bitch mother whose daughter couldn't stand her. I can see why Natalee would choose to disappear. Joran is innocent. The only person who should be sued is Beth and Jug Twitt.
They are the liars here.
E-mail No. 12
Attorney Kelly's move is outrageous! There's no evidence, body, or witnesses but slap a lawsuit on innocent people because Beth and Dave Holloway think these people are guilty? Americans hated worldwide and we wonder why?
E-mail No. 13
I'm so lovin' it, I can hardly contain myself! Finally, the Holloways may get some long-awaited answers. Kudos to all of those whose intelligence, quick actions and sacrifices made serving Paulus and Joran van der Sloot on U.S. soil a reality! Brilliant!
Your faithful viewer,
E-mail No. 14
You really need to quit your job and go work for Beth Twitty. I am so sick of this case. When will you move on? With all that occurred in MA with the Rachel Entwistle case today and you can only continue to talk about Beth? Move on Greta, there are other cases with real proof and evidence. You are so biased in the Holloway case that your show is pathetic!
E-mail No. 15
I laughed so hard when I heard tonight's news that the sleazy Joran van der Sloot and his pompous father were served papers in NYC and sued by the Holloway family. Too perfect! I hope their lives are made even a fraction of the misery they have caused Beth Twitty and Dave Holloway.
E-mail No. 16
A civil lawsuit against Joran's family is a waste of time and money. Where's the jurisdiction? And even if they prevail, how are they planning on collecting? It's a personal vendetta. It won't bring her back. Very, very sad...
E-mail No. 17
I am so elated right now after hear about catching these jerks coming to New York; I wish I could find the right thing to say to you Greta; I said it a long time back just keep going with the Natalee issue; you have played as much if not more then most keeping this alive, may be now justice will have some kind of face we been seeking for the family and Natalee.
God Bless you, Greta!
O... X... to you
E-mail No. 18
From what I understand, Joran is writing a book on the Natalee Holloway case and already has a publisher here in the U.S. If anything comes out of this maybe now he won't be able to profit off of this sad case. Let them stay in Aruba.
Also kudos to John Q. Kelly!
