A man was holding several hostages after robbing a bank in southwest Detroit on Wednesday afternoon.

The man entered the Comerica Bank branch and announced a robbery, then was given an undetermined amount of cash, Deputy Chief James Tate said. The man then fired one shot into the air with a long gun, but no one was believed injured, he said.

Three people inside the bank were released after the robbery, but about five others were still inside as of 5 p.m. EST, Tate said.
