Fashion insiders began previewing fall styles Friday at New York Fashion Week, and they're likely to see some tailored looks over the eight-day event.

Charles Nolan says he's been inspired by the navy blazers he wears almost every day.

"I like simple clothes and it (the collection) is going to stick to that mantra. The goal for me is to make interesting sportswear pieces that the customers can get excited about," Nolan says.

"Boy blazers and tailoring, they're things I haven't done in a while — you'll see proper chest pieces and sleeves."

Vera Wang says of her upcoming collection: "This season I am contrasting stiff tailoring with filmy slips while exploring the sophisticated color palette of Mark Rothko."

Fashion Week will include presentations by Kenneth Cole, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez, Luca Luca, Betsey Johnson, Baby Phat, Tracy Reese, Anna Sui and Cynthia Rowley.

More than 100 designers will preview their fall designs during the week. Many of the runway shows will be held at the tents, a 65,000-square-foot temporary structure set up in Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan. Other shows will be held at venues throughout the city.

The goal is to have as many people as possible see the collection, Nolan told The Associated Press, explaining why he's moved from a small venue near his hip Meatpacking District store to the Bryant Park tents.

According to organizer IMG Worldwide, some 15,000 editors, buyers, stylists and fashion enthusiasts visit the tents each day, and over the entire week, 4,000 outfits will be shown.

Fashion Week will end Feb. 10 with Karl Lagerfeld unveiling his new Karl Lagerfeld/Lagerfeld Collection. It's the first time the German-born designer of Chanel and Fendi is showing in New York, and it will be the first fashion show to be available as a podcast on the iTunes Music Store.

Armchair fans can also see most of the fall collections as streaming video on the Web site Imgfashionworld.com. MSN.com will carry an on-demand service with show highlights.
