PHILADELPHIA – A US Airways plane was forced to make an emergency landing on one engine at Philadelphia International Airport, authorities said.
The crew of Flight 4455, a twin-engine turboprop, declared an emergency Sunday about 20 minutes after taking off from Philadelphia bound for Baltimore-Washington International Airport, US Airways spokesman Carlo Bertolini said.
"One of the engines was shut down," he said.
The plane, carrying 48 passengers and three crew members, returned to Philadelphia, Bertolini said.
A Delta Song flight headed from Florida to Connecticut also made an emergency landing Sunday.
The plane, a Boeing 757, took off from Tampa, Fla., at 6:35 p.m., but then landed at Savannah, Ga., after an electrical short produced smoke in the cockpit, the airline said.
Another plane was brought in to take the 167 passengers to Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn., officials said. They arrived about 1:15 a.m. Monday, according to the airport's operations center.
No one was injured in either incident, officials said.
