Making a Difference

As Americans, it's easy to look at our public servants and feel a sense of doubt and cynicism about our system.

Whenever that happens, we should look at Judge John Adkins from Circleville, Ohio.

For over a decade, he's become known for using extraordinary measures to fight the terrible results of drunk driving. In recent years, Judge Adkins has raised the bar again. Whenever a police officer pulls over a drunk driver who refuses to take a Breathalyzer test, the officer is free to call Judge Adkins — day or night. Many times Judge Adkins will get out of bed in the middle of the night and head to the local hospital to give officers the authority to remove blood from the driver and prove without a doubt whether or not the person is impaired. Judge Adkins has done this for three years — without telling anyone or seeking any attention — to deal with the tragic loss of innocent life that happens every day from drunk driving.

It should inspire all of us, in whatever we do, to do our best to improve the world and make a difference.
