Here's the awful truth about honesty — guys lie more than women, but women are better liars.

A new survey found, by a margin of 2 to 1, men and women believe men routinely lie about sex, relationships, politics, business, their personal and professional achievements and their abilities at sports.

But women pull their fibs off with more savoir faire, and are more likely only to tell a white lie when they do, about 60 percent said.

"There are many reasons men lie: repression and insecurity, for the high, the power issue, or we could just be wired to lie," said Jeffrey Rodengen, author of "All Men Are Liars: An Incomplete Guide to Relationship Trauma."

The survey, conducted by pollsters Hamilton Beattie & Staff for Write Stuff Enterprises, publishers of Rodengen's book, found people believe the No. 1 reason why men lie is "to have sex."

The survey of more than 1,000 men and women 18 and older also found most people believe politicians tell more lies than business leaders, journalists, celebrities and pro athletes combined.

Bill Clinton is seen as a bigger liar than both George W. Bush and Richard Nixon.

Among the top celebrities perceived as liars are: O.J. Simpson, Michael Jackson, Robert Blake, Kobe Bryant, Donald Trump, Tom Cruise, Jude Law and Brad Pitt.
