Two homicide bombers detonated themselves inside a Shiite mosque in a town near the Iranian border, killing at least 35 people, the Iraqi military said.

Police said the attack targeted the Sheik Murad Shiite mosque in Khanaqin, 90 miles northeast of Baghdad, at 12:55 p.m. as dozens of people were attending the Friday prayers, police said.

Iraqi army Col. Hazim al-Sudani said 35 people were killed and 42 injured in the attack.
