Workaholic Kelly Ripa (search) says her 8-year-old son misses her so much that he would sell all his toys if it would buy him more time with her.
"[Son] Michael asked me, 'Why can't you ever take me to school?'" Kelly said.
"And I said, 'Well, Mommy works in the morning so that you guys can have toys and things.' [And] he says, 'I'll sell my toys if it means you don't have to work anymore!' "
Kelly told the story in an interview taped last week for Monday night's edition of "The Insider."
Her interviewer was none other than her predecessor on "Live!," Kathie Lee Gifford (search), who has become a correspondent for the nightly entertainment news show.
Gifford, 52, left "Live!" in July 2000 after 15 years as Regis Philbin's (search) co-host.
Ripa, 35 — who also stars in "Hope & Faith" on ABC — joined "Live!" in February 2001.
Their interview, which was taped last Thursday on the set of "Hope & Faith" at Silvercup Studios, lasted about an hour. For "The Insider," the hour was whittled down to five or six minutes.
Among other topics, Kelly explained how she avoids spoiling her three kids.
"Well, I tell them we can't afford anything," she said jokingly. "I just say we don't have any money for that and you have to put that back!"
Kelly gave a summary of the talents that have made her successful.
"If you say something loud and fast enough, people will laugh at you," she said. "And so I've made a career out of that."
Kelly told Kathie Lee she couldn't care less what reporters write about her.
"They can write what they want," Kelly said. "I don't have to like it, but at the end of the day it's a small price to pay because I have a great job and I have healthy children and I ask for nothing else."
