BASRA, Iraq – A bomber blew up his explosives-laden car outside a takeout restaurant in a market in this southern Iraqi city Wednesday night, killing at least 10 people and wounding 15, police said.
The felafel restaurant is in the center of Basra's Hayaniyah district (search) market, a Shiite Muslim section of the city, Lt. Col. Karim al-Zaidi said. Two police vehicles were destroyed in the blast.
Police at first said at least 15 people died in the attack, but later explained some of those counted as dead were critically wounded.
Earlier Wednesday, four American security agents were killed in a car bombing near Basra (search), the U.S. Embassy said in a statement.
