Nicole Kidman (search) stepped out on a special date Saturday — going to the movies in Manhattan with a 6-year-old Australian boy who suffers from a rare form of cancer.
Kidman — who read about Dylan Hartung's (search) battle with neuroblastoma (search) in the New York Post — arranged the date after visiting her newest fan at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center on Thursday.
And, for once, the silver-screen siren wasn't the one signing autographs. Instead, Dylan handed her a signed photo of the two of them.
"He actually thinks he's the famous one here — since Nicole wants to see him," mom Melissa said.
The date was the latest generous gesture from New Yorkers, who've opened their hearts to the boy after doctors in his country said there was no treatment available. Kidman contacted the family and asked if she could visit.
"She said she was on her way to work and just happened to have the New York Post in front of her," Melissa Hartung recalled. "She said, 'I want to meet this kid.'"
Kidman said through her publicist that she she had enjoyed the meeting.
"He is making progress, but still has a long way to go," said spokesperson Catherine Olin.
Helping Dylan in his fight is Team Continuum (search), a group who run the New York Marathon each year to raise awareness of the disease and money for those living with it. Anyone wanting to find out more about Dylan can go to www.caringbridge.org/me/dylanhartung.
Dylan came to New York in January to undergo a treatment developed by Sloan-Kettering to defeat the spine and bone-marrow cancer. He has endured 11 rounds of chemotherapy and is to start a clinical trial next month.
