For the U.S. Department of Defense (search), fear will officially not be a factor.

The DOD will not allow active-duty service members to appear on NBC's "Fear Factor" (search) as official representatives of the military, according to a report in the military newspaper, Stars and Stripes.

The series is getting ready to film an edition featuring soldiers who have served in Iraq or Afghanistan, but they may have to take a leave to participate, cannot wear uniforms and can't invite NBC cameras onto U.S. installations.

Last week Army officials circulated an internal memo clarifying soldier's eligibility to appear on the program.
