The driver of an SUV that was chased by police was taken into custody Thursday afternoon in the Montecito area of Santa Barbara.
Three children and a woman also were in the car that came to a stop at a dead-end. The driver initially emerged with a small child but then re-entered the vehicle.
For more than an hour, a two-door, red and gray, two-toned GM SUV traveled at high speeds and weaved as it made its way north on Highway 101 toward Santa Maria.
The chase started in Canoga Park. Police said a man may have started an altercation with his ex-wife and taken their three children with him. It was unknown if the driver of the SUV was armed. There appeared to be a stroller strapped on top of the truck.
The man finally brought his vehicle to a stop because he was blocked from going further on a dirt road. When he emerged from the vehicle, he held an infant in his arms. Less than 10 minutes later, the standoff ended peacefully.
