Former President Clinton (search) held a book-signing Wednesday to kick off the paperback version of his autobiography, "My Life." (search)
Some had lined up outside Tuesday night in hopes of being among the 500 to get their copies signed by Clinton. Before the signings began, Clinton received an ovation when he appeared from behind a curtain.
"I just want to let him know he's the reason my major's political science," said Juanita Carothers, 19, an Indiana State University sophomore.
Clinton quipped to the crowd that people would not hurt their shoulders reading the paperback version of his autobiography. It is slightly longer than the 957-page hardcover edition though.
Much of the new material — a 12-page afterword, and a brief preface — summarizes Clinton's recent activities, from the building of his presidential library in Little Rock, Ark., to raising money for tsunami victims. He also offers a quick analysis of last year's presidential election, urging fellow Democrats not to move "hard to the left."
Clinton has said he hopes the cheaper paperback edition will make his memoir "accessible to a new round of readers." The paperback version has a suggested retail price of $17.95, compared with $35 for the hardcover version.
