A man who tried to blame his identical twin brother for the rape of a 9-year-old girl has been sentenced to life in prison.
Aldo Rene Penaflor (search), 22, was convicted last week of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated kidnapping. Jurors took less than an hour Tuesday to agree on the maximum sentence.
"Until the day she dies, she will remember that she was raped brutally at the hands of this man," Assistant District Attorney Kaylynn Williford told jurors during her closing statement.
DNA tests pointed to both brothers. But jurors saw a videotaped statement to police that showed Penaflor using body motions to describe how he raped the girl in the back of a car.
Penaflor said he was innocent.
"I was manipulated and coerced into a confession by the Houston Police Department," Penaflor said. "I am a person who will take full responsibility for my negative actions, but I am innocent."
