NEW YORK – Teri Hatcher (search) has a lot in common with her character on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" — and the similarities are only growing. Both are divorced and raising a daughter, and Hatcher tells InStyle magazine in its May issue she's becoming a klutz, too.
"I think I'm absorbing Susan," she says.
While leaving the hair salon one recent rainy day, Hatcher dug into her purse to tip the valet. But her money wasn't in a wallet, and a gust of wind scattered ones, twenties and hundreds across the parking lot. She scooped up as much wet cash as she could, then went home and dried it with a hair dryer.
"Of course my money is not all neatly put into a wallet, because I'm a mom and I don't have time to do that," she tells the magazine.
One thing she is cautious about is dating — also like her character.
"But it doesn't consume me," the 40-year-old actress says. "I'm not looking to fill some empty spot. I'm scared though, because the possibility of someone breaking my heart is a risk, and there's not room in my life now to have to lie in a bed and pull the covers over my head with a big box of Oreos."
