The father of a Kentucky teen who was the subject of an Amber alert says a man state police have listed as a suspect in his daughter's disappearance was an acquaintance of the family.
Tiburcio Quijano (search) said in a telephone interview from his Tompkinsville home today that Salvadore Perez (search), the friend, and his daughter, Janet, were not involved romantically to his knowledge.
The only witness to what was reported by authorities as an abduction was Marta Besarto, the sister-in-law of Tiburcio. Besarto told the girl's father that the 16-year-old was already in a red van when she saw her yesterday morning, so it was not known if she got into the vehicle voluntarily or was pulled in. Quijano said his sister-in-law recognized the driver as someone she knew other than Perez.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Department and state police issued statements saying that Janet Quijano was last seen on Wednesday morning near her Center Point Road residence in Tompkinsville, waiting for a school bus.
The Amber alert says the victim is white, four-foot-eleven and weighs 85 pounds. She was wearing a red sweater with green squares and blue jeans.
Anyone with information about this abduction should call 270 856-3721.
