Stockard Channing Pleads Not Guilty to DUI

Actress Stockard Channing (search) pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges she allegedly was drunk while driving on the shoulder of the Hollywood Freeway to avoid a roadblock.

Channing, 60, who won an Emmy for her role as first lady on NBC's "The West Wing," (search) was arrested Dec. 14 and jailed for nearly three hours before being released without bail.

California Highway Patrol Officer Alex Delgadillo said Channing's blood-alcohol levels were .12 and .13. The legal limit in California (search) is .08.

The actress made the plea involving two misdemeanor counts of drunk driving through her attorney, Robert J. Wilson. The next hearing in the case was scheduled for May 26.
