Girl Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Teacher

A 14-year-old middle school student has been arrested on suspicion of trying to poison her teacher.

Investigators say the girl told police she put cleaning fluid in the teacher's lemonade because she was upset that the teacher had not allowed her to leave class to go to the restroom.

The victim was 34-year-old Betul Nettles (search), who teaches at Franklin Middle School in Tampa. She became ill and was treated at a hospital. Police says she apparently was not seriously harmed.

Authorities say the incident occurred when students were being dismissed and the teacher left a cup of lemonade setting on the piano. After the students left, Nettles took as wrong.

Other pupils told investigators they saw they girl put the cleaner into the drink, but they didn't try to warn the teacher.
