'Revelations' Puts Dent in 'Idol' Numbers

NBC's "Revelations" (search) booked solid premiere numbers Wednesday against Fox's "American Idol" (search) juggernaut.

The spiritual drama, starring Bill Pullman, snared 15.6 million viewers vs. "Idol" from 9 to 10 p.m. EDT — NBC's best numbers in that timeslot since a special "Law & Order" last September.

While "Idol" dwarfed "Revelations" by nearly 9 million viewers, the drama — scheduled for a six-episode run — increased NBC's 18-49 timeslot demo numbers by 39 percent, and built on its "Dateline" lead-in across all categories.

In the series, Pullman plays Dr. Richard Massey, a Harvard professor who's also an astrophysicist convinced that all events can be scientifically explained.

But after his daughter is murdered, Massey's beliefs in science are shaken when he encounters a nun, Sister Josepha Montifiore (Natascha McElhone), who leads him on a spiritual path.
