British police arrested two men on suspicion of throwing eggs at Prime Minister Tony Blair's (search) car at an election campaign event, officers said Tuesday.
A protest group known for its high-profile stunts said two of its members carried out the egg attack Monday evening.
Blair was leaving a rally for his Labour Party (search) at Oldham in northern England when the alleged incident occurred, a spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police (search) said. The prime minister is campaigning ahead of the May 5 national election.
Officers arrested two men aged 43 and 46 on suspicion of public order offenses after they allegedly shouted abuse and threw eggs at Blair's car, the spokeswoman said, without identifying the suspects. She added that the eggs caused no damage or injuries. It wasn't clear whether the eggs hit Blair's car.
Both men were taken to Oldham police station and released on police bail until April 15.
Campaign group Fathers 4 Justice said two of its protesters — Graham Wilson and Michael Downes — threw the eggs. The group wants greater rights of access to children by divorced or separated fathers.
Other recent stunts by Fathers 4 Justice included throwing bags of purple flour at Blair in the House of Commons (search), sending a man in a Batman suit up the front of Buckingham Palace, and handcuffing a government minister.
