President Bush (search) is endorsing New York City's quest to be host of the 2012 summer Olympic Games (search).
The president taped a minute-long video message last week boosting the New York bid, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Wednesday. the International Olympic Games Evaluation Committee (search) was to be in New York City this week.
"The president is fully supportive of New York City's bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games," Perino said. "He believes that having the Olympics in New York would build bridges across cultures and bring the world's greatest sporting event to one of the world's greatest cities."
New York is in the running for the 2012 Games with Madrid, Spain; London; Paris; and Moscow. The evaluation team is visiting each city for three days, starting Feb. 3-6 in Madrid and ending March 14-17 in Moscow.
