Significant dates in the lives of Prince Charles (search) and his future wife, Camilla Parker Bowles (search).

July 17, 1947: Camilla Shand is born, the daughter of Bruce Shand, a wealthy wine merchant and businessman, and his wife, Rosalind, a member of the very rich Cubitt family.

Nov. 14, 1948: Prince Charles is born to Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, becoming heir to the throne.

Early 1970s: Charles and Camilla Shand meet and have a romance, which cools in late 1972 when the prince is called away on naval duties.

July 1973: She marries army officer Andrew Parker Bowles. She remains friendly with Charles.

1975: Birth of Parker Bowles' first child, Tom.

1979: Birth of Parker Bowles' second child, Laura.

July 29, 1981: Charles marries Lady Diana Spencer at St. Paul's Cathedral, while millions watch the "fairy-tale wedding." He is 12 years her senior.

June 21, 1982: Birth of Charles' son, Prince William.

Sept. 15, 1984: Birth of Charles' second son, Prince Harry.

June 15, 1992: After months of speculation about the state of the royal marriage, Andrew Morton's book "Diana: Her True Story" says Charles has had a longtime extramarital affair, driving Diana to injure herself and attempt suicide. It says Diana felt "haunted" by Parker Bowles.

Aug. 25, 1992: The Sun newspaper prints transcript of a phone call monitored in December 1989 between Diana and a man who affectionately calls her "Squidgy."

Dec. 9, 1992: Prime Minister John Major announces to Parliament that Diana and Charles are separating but there are no plans for divorce.

Jan. 12, 1993: The Sun publishes transcript of intimate phone call said to be between Camilla and Charles, reportedly monitored in December 1989.

June 29, 1994: In a TV documentary, Charles says he had committed adultery after the marriage broke down, "us both having tried." Interviewer Jonathan Dimbleby later identified Parker Bowles as the other woman.

January 1995: The Parker Bowleses divorce.

Nov. 20, 1995: In a television interview, Diana says she discovered in 1986 that her husband had renewed his old relationship with Parker Bowles. Diana admits adultery with army officer James Hewitt.

December 1995: Charles receives letter from Queen Elizabeth II urging divorce, and he agrees.

Feb. 28, 1996: Diana agrees to divorce.

Aug. 28, 1996: Final decree of divorce between Charles and Diana.

April 1997: Parker Bowles takes a step into public life when she becomes patron of the National Osteoporosis Society.

July 1997: Charles hosts a party for Parker Bowles to celebrate her 50th birthday.

Aug. 31, 1997: Diana is killed in Paris automobile accident. Her companion, Dodi Fayed, also is killed.

Jan. 28, 1999: Charles and Parker Bowles make public appearance together at a party at the Ritz Hotel in central London.

June 3, 2000: The queen recognizes the relationship by attending a birthday lunch for ex-King Constantine of Greece with Parker Bowles present.

Feb. 10, 2005: Charles' office announces that he and Parker Bowles are to marry on April 8.
