Friday's news agenda highlights why co-hosting "FOX & Friends" is the best job in the world.
Why? Well, the unscripted, unplowed ground of the Iraqi elections makes every toss to a reporter and every interview an unscripted experience. Not one person on the planet can say they know exactly what will happen, what this will do to the region and what will change after Sunday. Unless you are Sen. Ted Kennedy (search) — in which case you would know what to do and that's turn tail and run. JUST QUIT! What a nice salute to our troops who lost their lives just pack up and leave the job undone and give the keys to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (search). Political genius Cliff May says he does not even speak for Democratic Party on that issue and I hope that's the case, because it sends a horrible loser message to the rest of the world.
In the 7 a.m. hour we tossed out to a general in studio in Fallujah (search) — yes, the former terrorist headquarters — and we had a casual, insightful conversation. We also had a chance to talk with the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, John Negroponte, and he was candid — not spinning about his hopes and fears for Election Day. One reporter, Steve Harrigan, came on he made it clear he expects a bloodbath. My feeling is: lets just wait and see. Have you heard about British, Polish and Italian causalities? Neither have I, which means their regions are clean and relatively peaceful. Have you heard about an uprising in Sadr City or Najaf ? The answer is not for months and that is the reason I am optimistic that the turnout will be better then ours — which was 60 percent.
We closed the show with a one-on-one with late night host Jimmy Kimmel and I have to say he came off like a great guy. I would have preferred to have left in the part in the interview when he talked about the FOX football guys — but it was edited out, sorry.
Oops, look at the time! Gotta run! I'll be in Houston Friday night at 7 p.m. and Dallas on Saturday in the afternoon at 2 p.m. signing books and just saying thanks to all our viewers. Hope to see all of Texas at some point! Check www.briankilmeade.com for more information.
