A sheriff's deputy was fired for misuse of county equipment after photos surfaced of the deputy's wife posing nude with his patrol car.

Damon Gregory says the incident was a private matter between he and his wife and that he won't appeal his firing from the Franklin County Sheriff's Department (search). Chief Deputy James Hamilton said Gregory violated department policy and the department's code of conduct.

A computer disc containing photos of Gregory's wife standing near a patrol vehicle surfaced at the sheriff's office. A supervisor who knew of the photographs was demoted from sergeant to road deputy.

Gregory had been a deputy since January 2003.

A prosecutor reviewed the case and agreed with the matter being handled internally.

"As soon as this came to our attention, the sheriff took action," Hamilton said. "We terminated one and we opened up an investigation into whether there was anybody else involved."

"The sheriff's department wants to apologize to each and every citizen for any embarrassment or loss of confidence," Hamilton said.
