WASHINGTON – President Bush (search) attended a church service Sunday and then headed out on his mountain bike to ride in crisp, cool weather, getting in some exercise before attending a star-studded event at the Kennedy Center (search).
"Good morning everybody," Bush exclaimed to onlookers as he left the worship service at St. John's Episcopal Church, just across Lafayette Park from the White House. "Great to see ya."
Before church, the president, clad in a tan cowboy hat, moseyed around the Rose Garden area, his dog, Barney, in tow. Several visitors joined the president and first lady in the brief motorcade to church. Afterward, Bush returned to the White House, changed clothes and headed to Beltsville, Md., near Washington, to ride his bike on the grounds of a Secret Service (search) training facility.
Late in the afternoon, First Lady Laura Bush (search) was hosting a reception at the White House for guests who will be honored at the Kennedy Center. This year's honorees are: actor, producer, writer and director Warren Beatty; husband-and-wife actors, writers and producers Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee; singer and composer Elton John; soprano Joan Sutherland; and composer and conductor John Williams.
The president and Mrs. Bush were attending the Kennedy Center event together Sunday evening.
