Three GIs Injured in Afghan Bomb Attack

A bomb attack wounded three U.S. soldiers and one Afghan interpreter in southeastern Afghanistan (search) near the Pakistan border, the U.S. military said Thursday.

One of the soldiers was in critical condition after the attack Wednesday in the Paktika (search) region about 110 miles southeast of Kabul, a military statement said.

Two vehicles were destroyed in the blast caused by an improvised explosive device — or home made bomb, it said.

All the wounded were taken to Camp Salerno, a U.S. military base in neighboring Khost province, for medical treatment.

Some 18,000 U.S. soldiers are hunting Al Qaeda (search) and Taliban rebels in eastern and southern Afghanistan.
