Report: McGreevey's Wife Buys House

New Jersey first lady Dina Matos McGreevey (search) has bought a three-bedroom home in Union County valued at $430,000, according to a published report.

The wife of Gov. James E. McGreevey (search) became owner of the house in Springfield in the last few days, a real estate agent who brokered the deal told The New York Times for Wednesday's newspapers.

Maureen Leddy, the agent, declined to say the sales price of the brick ranch. The newspaper reported that Mrs. McGreevey's future neighbors said the asking price was $430,000 and the home has been vacant for the past two years since its owner's death.

According to real estate records in Springfield, the three-bedroom house is assessed at $181,600, and has a partially finished basement and one full and two partial baths. Market values for similar homes in realty listings for the area range from $329,000 to $650,000, The Record of Bergen County reported Tuesday.

Less than 25 miles from New York, Springfield is a commuter community of about 14,250 residents. Located at the foot of the Watchung Mountains, the town is home to the world-renowned Baltusrol Golf Club (search), which is to host the 2005 PGA Championship.

Mrs. McGreevey, 37, is executive director of the Columbus Hospital Foundation (search) in Newark. A telephone message left with the hospital by The Associated Press was not returned Tuesday.

Micah Rasmussen, a spokesman for McGreevey, also declined to comment. "Their personal lives are none of my business," Rasmussen said.

Citing unnamed friends of the McGreeveys, The Record reported Tuesday that the first lady will move into the home without her husband.

The McGreeveys are to leave the governor's mansion in Princeton next month, three months after Gov. McGreevey's announcement he would resign. McGreevey, 47, announced Aug. 12 that he was gay, said he had an affair with a man and declared he would resign Nov. 15.

The Record also cited unidentified sources in reporting that Gov. McGreevey is looking for a residence near Hudson County's waterfront and has checked out an apartment in Rahway.
