A car bomb exploded near a police station in southwest Baghdad (search) Friday, killing one person and wounding at least 11, Interior Ministry and hospital officials said.

Initial reports indicate that five policemen were among the wounded from the explosion in the al-Doura neighborhood, Interior Ministry spokesman Col. Adnan Abdul-Rahman (search) said.

The wounded, some of whom sustained serious injuries, were taken to al-Yarmuk hospital, he said. No further details were immediately available.

A hospital official said 12 people were hospitalized, one of whom died on arrival. The eleven others injured included three in critical condition, she said.

Insurgents have been targeting Iraqi security forces, who are seen as collaborators with U.S. forces.
