A Texas weekly newspaper that bills itself as President Bush's hometown paper is endorsing John Kerry (search) for president.

The Lone Star Iconoclast (search), which has a circulation of about 425, says Kerry will restore American dignity.

The Crawford paper, which endorsed Bush four years ago and supported the invasion of Iraq, says it has been "let down" by various aspects of the war.

It charges the president has made continuous mistakes regarding terrorism and Iraq that have diminished the nation's "reputation and influence" around the world.

The paper also says it is also troubled by what it calls the "deteriorating state" of the economy, and what it describes as the president's initiatives to "disable" the Social Security system.
