A car bomb exploded outside the Abu Ghraib (search) prison on Sunday, killing one militant, the military said.
The attack occurred at 6:30 a.m. when a vehicle tried to crash through the prison's protective gate, said Lt. Col. Barry Johnson, a U.S. military spokesman.
Guards at the facility west of Baghdad "engaged and destroyed," the attacker, Johnson said. No other injuries were reported.
Johnson said a search of the car later uncovered more explosives.
