FAIRFAX, Va. – Convicted sniper John Allen Muhammad (search) is back in a Virginia courtroom Monday as his lawyers try to prevent another trial stemming from the October 2002 sniper shootings (search).
Muhammad was brought into court Monday morning with his hands cuffed to his sides off of a leather belt. Previously, he had a little more freedom.
The tighter security came because at a court hearing last month, Muhammad wriggled out of a chain strapped around his waist during a recess.
Muhammad is charged with capital murder in Fairfax County for the death of Linda Franklin (search) outside a Home Depot store. He's already been sentenced to death for killing Dean Meyer.
Other sniper shootings -- including Franklin's -- were presented at Muhammad's Prince William trial. They say this second trial for Franklin's death would be double jeopardy.
