Movie starlet Lindsay Lohan's (search) hot-tempered father yesterday suffered an apparent heart attack outside a Long Island courtroom where he was to appear on charges of assaulting his brother-in-law.

Michael Lohan (search), 43, arrived at the Mineola courthouse with a new lawyer, Dominic Barbara, who once represented Joey Buttafuoco (search). After Barbara had a private conference with Michael Lohan's alleged victim, Matt Sullivan, and Sullivan family members, the lawyer went to speak to Lohan, who was waiting outside the courtroom.

Suddenly, Lohan's face turned red and he began shaking and clutching his chest. "I don't feel well," he said. "I can't breathe."

Court officers came to his aid and administered oxygen. Lohan took a pill — apparently a nitroglycerine tablet — and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

"It looks pretty serious. He had a heart attack in the past," Barbara said. "I was just giving him the good news — that things are moving in the right direction."

Barbara said he proposed a plea bargain to the victim and the Nassau County prosecutor, in which Lohan would do no jail time but would attend anger-management classes and be put on probation. The assault and aggravated-harassment case against Lohan was put off until Sept. 2. Sullivan declined to comment on the proposed deal.

Lohan is charged with beating Sullivan amid a dispute during a family First Communion party at the Merrick home of Lohan's estranged wife, Dina, in May. The couple's movie-star daughter attended the gathering — but did not witness the alleged beating, her family claimed.

One member of the victim's family said yesterday Michael Lohan created another disturbance at the house on Monday.

The burglar alarm was set off but Lohan was not arrested, said another brother-in-law, Paul Sullivan.

"He was kicking the door and trying to get in the house," said Sullivan. Dina "was in the house with the kids" except Lindsay, who was in California, he said.

Nassau County police said the home alarm was triggered at 4 p.m. Monday but officers who responded found no one outside the house and reported the home secure. No arrests were made.

Dina Lohan has changed the locks and has consulted a divorce lawyer, although she has not filed for divorce, Paul Sullivan said.

Michael Lohan could not be reached for comment and Barbara said he had not heard about the alleged incident on Monday.

At his last court appearance in Mineola, Michael Lohan was arrested by Suffolk cops on larceny charges for allegedly failing to pay a luxury-hotel bill.

He also faces an assault charge in Manhattan, stemming from an incident in which he allegedly roughed up a city sanitation worker whose garbage truck was blocking a street last year.
