CHARLEVOIX, Mich. – John Ramsey (search) has lost his bid for a state House seat in Michigan. His campaign was apparently overshadowed by the unsolved murder of his daughter, JonBenet.
Ramsey placed second among six candidates for the Republican nomination. He had no immediate comment after the votes were counted, but earlier told supporters the campaign had been "a very positive journey" for his family.
The longtime businessman's entry into politics surprised many, who wondered why he would voluntarily return to the limelight.
Six-year-old child beauty pageant queen JonBenet Ramsey was found beaten and strangled in the basement of their home in Boulder, Colorado, in December 1996.
Police initially described her parents as under a "cloud of suspicion," but charges never were filed. The Ramseys have insisted that an intruder killed their daughter.
