President Bush praised Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld (search) for his leadership today in televised remarks made during a previously scheduled visit to the Pentagon.

"Thank you for your leadership. You are courageously leading our nation in the war against terror. You are doing a superb job," Mr. Bush said.

Will the president's remarks today and the Defense Secretary's congressional testimony on Friday help to appease their critics in the wake of the release of photos of alleged prisoner mistreatment at the Abu Ghraib (search) prison in Iraq?
