The Foxlight: Weekend Movies

"Kill Bill: Vol. 2," (search) "The Punisher" and "Connie and Carla" hit theaters in today's Foxlight.

"The Bride" is back and she's got a little time to kill. Uma Thurman brings us episode two of "Kill Bill." Before she gets to Bill -- David Carradine -- she has to off Daryl Hannah and Michael Madsen. This "other half" of the story actually runs about 50 minutes longer than the first "half." That's because there's a lot more back-story to tell. And the result is the "Godfather 2" of "Kill Bill" movies. Not the same thrill ride, but on many levels, better than the first.

The other revenge movie is sort of a male bride version of "Kill Bill" called "The Punisher." (searchThis comic book-turned-big-screen flick is punishment, according to The New York Post. Thomas Jane is the vigilante who's mad at bad guy John Travolta. Not for making "Battlefield Earth," but for being partly responsible for his family's death. The Wall Street Journal Short say it's short on actor-generated heat, which sort of wastes the newly single Rebecca Romijn-Stamos.

Finally, "Connie and Carla" (search) has winning performances from Toni Collette and the instantly rich Nia Vardalos, who threw all her "Big Fat Greek Wedding" credibility out the window when she made the lame sitcom version of the so-so movie. This update of "Some Like It Hot" with the gals cross-dressing for success sounds a lot cuter than it plays.
