WASHINGTON – Personal appearances and television advertisements are commonly used to appeal to voters during elections. But the first method reaches a limited number of people and the second can quickly drain campaign funds.
Now the presidential campaigns have found another targeted, unlimited and cheap way to reach voters — Internet videos.
The presidential election of 2004 (search) has seen an explosion of political advertisements sent out to campaign supporters.
Some political analysts say with fewer regulations than television, the Internet (search) opens up a whole different playing field for candidates.
"You can say a lot more things on the Internet than you could say on broadcast television and not get in any trouble doing it," said Democratic strategist Bob Beckel.
