LANSING, Mich. – The father of slain beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey (search) is thinking about seeking election to the Michigan House of Representatives.
John Ramsey (search) may run as a Republican for a seat in the northern part of the state, his wife, Patsy, said Tuesday.
"A lot of our friends have been encouraging him to do it," she said.
Ramsey is registered to vote in the town of Charlevoix, where his family has owned a vacation home. The family moved to Michigan full-time last fall, Patsy Ramsey (search) said.
Ramsey has not yet filed to run for the open seat, but the deadline is not until May 11.
JonBenet's strangled and beaten body was found in the basement of the family's Colorado home in December 1996. Authorities say she may have been sexually assaulted. No charges have been filed in the 6-year-old's death.
A cloud of suspicion surrounded the girl's parents, but they insisted the crime was committed by an intruder.
