Sen. Michael Crapo (search) of Idaho announced Thursday he'll seek a second term, saying he wants to help eliminate the federal budget deficit.
The 52-year-old Republican blamed the red ink on poor budget choices and the cost of fighting terrorism. He said the deficit, if unchecked, could reach $2 trillion in the next 10 years.
Crapo has no announced challengers, but Idaho Democrats said Thursday they are "actively pursuing a couple of different alternatives." Idaho is overwhelmingly Republican.
Crapo heads into the campaign with more than $1.1 million in the bank, according to Federal Election Commission records.
