Doctors were examining a woman suspected of contracting bird flu (search) during a recent trip to Thailand, officials in Hamburg said Monday.
The woman complained nausea, dizziness and fever after returning from a trip to Thailand on Saturday, the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (search) said in a statement.
Initial medical tests have not confirmed bird flu. Further test results were expected later Monday, the institute said.
The woman was under observation at the institute and in good condition.
Health officials in Hamburg were not able to confirm the suspected case.
There have been 18 suspected human cases of bird flu in Thailand. Ten people have died of the ailment. The human cases have been traced to direct contact with sick birds.
