HONOLULU – A passenger on a Northwest Airlines (search) flight from Detroit to Honolulu was subdued and arrested after he tried to enter the cockpit, officials said.
State deputy sheriffs arrested the 31-year-old Tennessee man after Flight 923 landed at Honolulu International Airport on Thursday, Hawaii Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Ishikawa said.
The incident does not appear to be related to terrorism, the FBI said.
Jennifer Marty, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Administration (search), said the man said he "needed to get to the cockpit."
The FBI identified the man as Brandon Gabriel Rines. He is being held at the federal detention center next to the airport and likely will appear before the U.S. magistrate Friday in Honolulu to face a charge of interfering with a flight crew, according to an FBI statement.
Ishikawa said a female flight attendant and two off-duty Northwest employees aboard the DC-10 subdued the man about two hours before the end of the nonstop flight. No injuries were reported and no weapons were used.
The man had flown from Knoxville, Tenn., to Detroit before catching the flight to Hawaii.
