There are a few viewers who don't agree with my "push" to get all the airlines involved in the Hero Miles program. But when I get e-mails like the following one, I just want to do more for our soldiers and thus the "push."
Dear Greta and Staff,
I just wanted to say 'Thank you' for what you are doing to raise miles to help soldiers return to visit their families.
We live in the Ft. Bragg area; my husband is currently serving in Afghanistan. While at the airport here in Fayetteville, NC, where I was taking my mother to catch a return flight, I struck up a conversation with a young army wife who had brought her mother-in-law to catch a return flight. This wife had just driven up to Baltimore from Ft. Bragg, a 5-1/2 to 6 hour trip, with 4 small children, to pick up her husband whom had been fighting in Iraq, and would be returning to Iraq the next week. She had to make the 12 hour round trip, because they couldn't afford to fly him down to North Carolina, and the Army is not required to fly them to their final destination. They were just so grateful that he was able to be stateside for 2 weeks. He'd been in Iraq for 6 months at that point, and had lost a family member, that he'd been unable to return for the burial of, during the first weeks of the war. They weren't complaining at all. However, I know how difficult that drive is, especially with children.
So, all that to say that we appreciate it when you do something for any one of us. We are grateful for your coverage and interest in our soldiers and the families that stand behind and love them.
God bless you in all you do.
