And now the most absorbing two minutes in television, the latest from the political grapevine:
Fight to the End…And After
The California Democratic Party and the Democrats for America's future…a national group led by Clinton labor secretary Robert Reich (search)…are launching a nation-wide fundraising campaign to help pay for a Florida-style challenge to next week's recall election if it turns out close.
They hope to raise $100,000 over the next week. State Democratic Party spokesman Bob Mulholland (search) tells the Sacramento Bee, "We're putting the Republicans on notice that we're prepared for their goon tactics this time."
Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., is urging Congress to abolish the Congressional Black Caucus (search), the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (search) and the Congressional Asian Pacific Caucus (search), saying they are, "separating ourselves up into these racial divisions."
After all, Tancredo tells The Hill newspaper, "It would be anathema to me if someone wanted to create a white caucus." Mississippi Democratic Congressman and Black Caucus member Bennie Thompson, however, calls the idea, "insensitive to diversity."
GOP No Chance In N.Y.C.?
It's been nearly 20 years since a Republican presidential candidate carried New York, and a new poll says that trend would hold if the election were today.
John Kerry, Howard Dean and Dick Gephardt would also beat Mr. Bush in New York. What's more, if New York Sen. Hillary Clinton were to join the race, the poll indicates she would win by 8 points.
All Types of Lesbians?
An Australian transgender-lobbying group, the WOMAN Network (search), is outraged that organizers of a Lesbian festival in Victoria, Australia, would only let, "female-born" lesbians attend.
Men who became women and are still attracted to women sexually, say they should be included.
But a spokeswoman for the festival insists there is a difference between lesbians born female and those born male, adding, "It's not about excluding, it's about affirmation of our identity." Nevertheless, an Australian court has ordered the festival to let all types of lesbians in.
