The earnest pop singer/songwriter's sophomore disc, which sold 316,500 copies its first week out, according to SoundScan, was boosted by his first single, "Bigger Than My Body."
"Metamorphosis," the debut disc from teen popper Hilary Duff, slipped to No. 2.
Soul man Seal's brand new "Seal IV," at No. 3, was the only other debut in the top 10, at No. 3.
"American IV: The Man Comes Around," from Johnny Cash (search), who died last week, jumped from No. 94 to No. 22.
And "Wind" from Warren Zevon (search), who died Sept. 7, surged from No. 40 to No. 7.
