An explosion in a Tel Aviv (search) office building killed one woman and wounded several others Monday, but police said they suspected criminal violence and not a Palestinian attack.

Police said explosives caused the explosion in an elevator shaft, not a gas canister as was originally believed. A woman who was seriously injured in the explosion died in the hospital, police said, adding that several others were being treated for light injuries.

The explosion tore through a cafeteria in the building.

"We have no indication that this was a terrorist attack," Tel Aviv Police Chief Yossi Sedbon told Army Radio. He added that the circumstances of the explosion, remained unclear and an investigation was ongoing.

During a nearly three-year-old Palestinian uprising, dozens of Palestinian homicide bombers (search) have blown up in public places in Israel, killing and wounding scores of people.
