NEW YORK – Parminder Nagra, who's starring in the movie Bend It Like Beckham, will scrub into the ER cast as a regular beginning next season.
Nagra will play a new medical student in the NBC series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. A spokesman for Warner Bros., which produces ER, said yesterday that no other details were available.
Nagra, a native of Leicester, England, stars in Bend It Like Beckham as Jesmina, a soccer-obsessed teenager at odds with her Indian parents, who want her to focus on a traditional Indian lifestyle like meeting an Indian man and getting married (like her somewhat rebellious older sister).
Jess, enamored of British soccer star David Beckham (who's married to Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham), sneaks off to join an all-girl soccer team -- and is given the chance to earn a scholarship, attend college in California and play professional soccer with her best friend.
Bend It Like Beckham has drawn comparisons to last year's sleeper hit, My Big Fat Greek Wedding (the title's "Bend It" refers to Beckham's ability to put a good amount of curve and spin on the soccer ball).
