A timeline of key events in Monday's incursion by U.S. troops into Baghdad. All times are local:
6:30 a.m. -- U.S. troops leave their positions south of Baghdad.
7 a.m. -- Cross outer ring of defenses, flipped over tractor-trailers and mine fields.
7:10 a.m. -- First contact with Iraqi paramilitaries, firing assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.
7:20 a.m. -- Cross Baghdad city limits, passing beneath a concrete arch.
7:45 a.m. -- F-16s called in to strike at Iraqi armor on the road ahead.
8:10 a.m. -- Mortar fire begins on strategic intersections to soften them before the tanks roll through to take up positions.
8:20 a.m. -- U.S. troops enter presidential palace
8:45 a.m. -- Light resistance overcome.
