Below are recent instances in the rap industry that have criminal implications:
October 30, 2002: Jam Master Jay, DJ for pioneering rap group Run DMC, was murdered in Queens, N.Y.
November 14, 2002: Suge Knight's Tha Row Records was stormed by authorities, looking for ties to a recent gang murder in Los Angeles. Nine days later Knight was arrested for alleged parole violations.
January 3, 2003: Murder Inc.'s offices and its studio, known as "The Crackhouse" were raided by poilce. Days later, gunmen open fire on the offices of Violator Records, a rap label representing artists like Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot.
Feb. 21, 2003: Rhymes' empty SUV was sprayed with bullets on a Manhattan street minutes after he had parked it.
Feb. 24, 2003: Chris Gotti, president of Murder Inc., was shot in the leg outside Def Jam Records offices in New York.
