General Hospital starlet Vanessa Marcil (Brenda) is leaving the show -- after failing to work out a deal with ABC.

TV Guide is reporting in its Feb. 1 issue that Marcil will leave GH Feb. 19 because she wanted more money than the show's star, Tony Geary, and wanted more time to spend with her family -- both of which she failed to get.

Marcil's character, Brenda Barrett, is about to marry her longtime Australian beau, Jax (Ingo Rademacher) on Valentine's Day during February sweeps -- making her departure, and its timing, even more sticky.

This isn't the first time Marcil has left GH, but it's expected to be her last. According to TV Guide, ratings for GH rose dramatically last September among 18-49 -- the show's target audience -- when Marcil returned after a four-year absence.

Sources tell TV Guide that Marcil wanted more money than Geary and wanted an "abbreviated" work schedule so she could spend more time with her 10-month-old son, Kassius.

"I'm really disappointed to be leaving, but I guess ABC's not willing to compromise on the things I need," Marcil told TV Guide.

"I have a lot more needs now that I have a child, and they need what they need to run a show smoothly.

"When I signed a short-term deal last summer, I made it clear I'd have to see how my son responded to my going back to work," Marcil says.

"And he hasn't responded well."

The Feb. 1 issue of TV Guide hits newsstands on Monday.
